Nottingham's Own Superstar
We very well know that Nottingham Forest has signed around 30 player's since the last summer transfer window, from exciting youngsters like Morgan Gibbs-White to seasoned pro's like Renan Lodi, Jesse Lingard, Navas, and so on. But their brightest shining player this season has been their own player from their academy; Brennan Price Johnson, Son of former Jaimaican and Nottingham Forest footballer David Johnson.
Brennan was born in Nottingham,but represent's Wales national team, for whom he is eligible to represent through his mother's family. 21 years-old forward can play as a right-winger or as a second striker.
Club career
After joining the Nottingham Forest academy from Dunkirk aged 8, Johnson made his first team debut aged 18, appearing on 3 August 2019 as an 88th minute substitute in a 2-1 loss against West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the season. He played just 4 matches with 2 starts that season, So with opportunities limited, he joined league one club Lincoln City for the 20-21 season. He made his debut 2 days later, coming off the bench against Charlton Athletic. He scored his 1st career goal against Plymouth Argyle. He had a very good time at Lincoln scoring 10 times and assisting a further 5 goals in League One. Johnson scored his first career hat-trick in a match against MK Dons, taking just 11 minutes to accomplish this feat.
Johnson's first professional goal for Nottingham Forest came in a 1–1 draw against local rivals Derby County on 28 August 2021. Forest experienced an upturn of form after the appointment of Steve Cooper, replacing Chris Hughton, and after scoring one goal and providing two assists in a month where Forest had three wins, Johnson was awarded the EFL Young Player of the Month award for September 2021. Johnson was awarded the EFL Championship Player of the Month award for April 2022 after his four goals and four assists fired Forest into the play-offs, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion.
Johnson ended the season as Forest's leading goal contributor with 26 goal contribution; also Forest's leading scorer scoring 16 goals, including in both semi-final legs of their successful play-off campaign. He was named the EFL Championship Young Player of the season, With Nottingham Forest gaining promotion to the Premium league for the first time since 1998-99 season winning the play-off's.
Brennan also has been influential this season for Forest in the Premier league having scored 8 goals and providing 2 assists in 34 apps at the time of writing.
He has made 2.69 progressive carries, which rank him in 90 percentile of the forwards in top 5 leagues according to FBref. He is also hardworking for his team, being in 81 percentile for tackles and 83rd percentile for blocks of the forwards in big 5 leagues.
The 21-years old had added to his growing reputation and is doing his best to keep Nottingham Forest upfloat in the Premier league.
International Career
In September 2020, Johnson was called up to the senior Wales squad for the first time.
Johnson made his Wales debut in a 0-0 draw against the USA on 12th November 2020. He made his first start for Wales against Finland on 1 September 2021. Johnson scored his first goal for Wales on 11 June 2022 in 1-1 UEFA Nations League match against Belgium.
In November 2022, Johnson was named in the Wales squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Brennan has 18 senior cap's for Wales, scoring 2 times for the Dragons.
If brennan can live up to the potential he is showing at such a young age, he will become one heck of player for Wales and Nottingham Forest.
